The Blue Bird

Distraught when their father goes off to war, moppets Mytyl (Shirley Temple) and Tyltyl (Johnny Russell) set out to find the bluebird of happiness in this lavish fantasy. Accompanied by their beloved pets (played by Gale Sondergaard and Eddie Collins), the siblings journey to the past and the future, only to discover the joy they seek in the present. The film received Oscar nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Special Effects.

The cinematography is beautiful for its' time, but most importantly is the theme of the movie- thankfulness. Also the color is really beautiful, and its full of imaginative sets. I loved when they went to the future and met the other children. I love how pure this film seems it has it's dramatic moments but nothing like those of today. I love all Shirley Temple movies and this is one my husband even enjoyed. I do plan to add this to my DVD collection.
