Alice Through The Looking Glass

Once upon a time, Alice traveled to Wonderland. Now, she takes another journey and meets up with Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Humpty Dumpty, the Red King and Queen, Red and White Knights and Jabberwocky. Join the intrepid Alice on an enchanting magical adventure that will delight the whole family. Kate Beckinsale, Ian Holm and Penelope Wilton star in this live-action adaptation of Lewis Carroll's classic, directed by John Henderson.

Okey I know harsh one star but I couldn't even get through half of this movie. IT was just so over the top. I love the book in fact I did a report senior year and loved every minute but for some reason this version didn't work for me I see there are other versions out there so I might try those ones. I tryed on three seperate times to watch this but it was just too bizzare and boring for me.

The Blue Bird

Distraught when their father goes off to war, moppets Mytyl (Shirley Temple) and Tyltyl (Johnny Russell) set out to find the bluebird of happiness in this lavish fantasy. Accompanied by their beloved pets (played by Gale Sondergaard and Eddie Collins), the siblings journey to the past and the future, only to discover the joy they seek in the present. The film received Oscar nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Special Effects.

The cinematography is beautiful for its' time, but most importantly is the theme of the movie- thankfulness. Also the color is really beautiful, and its full of imaginative sets. I loved when they went to the future and met the other children. I love how pure this film seems it has it's dramatic moments but nothing like those of today. I love all Shirley Temple movies and this is one my husband even enjoyed. I do plan to add this to my DVD collection.

This animated escapade, based on E.B. White's classic children's tale, introduces us to Louie (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker and Melissa Disney), a young mute trumpeter swan. As he grows up, Louie falls in love with beautiful Serena (Reese Witherspoon), but cannot share his feelings. Frustrated, Louie flies off and learns how to read and write, but he still can't communicate with his swan friends … until he receives a present of a trumpet.

I was werry of renting this movie because all the reviews from netflix I had read said that it was a horrable movie and didn't go along with the book. Well after realizing that most of them said nothing wrong with it except it didn't go along with the book I decided to check it out. Not ever reading the book or remembering I knew that it wouldn't let me down for that reason. I still have yet to read the book but will be this week when I go to library. So based on just it being a great movie and one that I love whole heartly. I can see how kids could watch it over and over and will defintly buy this one. Despite many saying it is so different from the book.

Beetlejuice

Thanks to an untimely demise, a young couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) ends up as poltergeists in their New England farmhouse, where they fail to meet the challenge of scaring away the insufferable new owners. In desperation, the undead newlyweds turn to an expert frightmeister named Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) -- who has a diabolical agenda behind his scheme to help them. The movie snagged an Oscar for Best Makeup.

Ok I really am not a huge Tim Burton fan. I guess it's just cause I am not into the dark humor that he does. The only reason I watched this one is because my husband wanted to and it wouldn't be fair if I always choose the movies. So this was the one he choose. I also think because my brothers loved it and it was one of those ones played over and over agian that I got tired of it. But I love the acting in it. ANyone who can act that well with all the makeup is good on my book. I think my faviorate part of the movie is the faces that Alec and Geena make. All in all I like it but not one i am rushing out to add to my DVD collection.

The Holiday

Stuck in a vicious cycle of dead-end relationships with two-timing men, Los Angeles resident Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Londoner Iris (Kate Winslet) decide to swap homes -- paving the way for romances they never imagined possible. This charming comedy from writer-director Nancy Meyers features an all-star cast, including Jude Law, Jack Black, Edward Burns and Rufus Sewell.

This movie has a lot of charm, witty dialogue, unexpected elements, and really pretty people to look at. Everyone was pretty much what you'd expect and hope for. Cameron Diaz is fun, sparkly and charismatic. Jude Law was charming, handsome and dreamy. Jack Black was still funny Jack Black, just a toned down, responsible-adult version. Kate Winslet I felt was great for the neurotic jilted lover. I saw this movie in theaters and than rented it agian and want to buy it. I love the whole thing although it is predicable. Its a good movie to cuddle up with a loved one with.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events

After their parents are tragically killed, three young orphans -- Violet (Emily Browning), Klaus (Liam Aiken) and Sunny -- are taken in by the cunning and dastardly Count Olaf (Jim Carrey), who hopes to snatch their inheritance from them. Based on the series of best-selling, darkly funny children's books, director Brad Silberling's film co-stars Meryl Streep, Billy Connolly and Timothy Spall. Jude Law narrates as Lemony Snicket.

Ok so it took me a long while to see this film because a lot of my friends (who share same taste in movies with me) told me this was not a film I would enjoy. I thought they are probley right seeming how in the past I have not enjoyed movies like this. So I was more than presently surprised with this film . The sets and visual effects are stunning, and the characters are lively and interesting. The movie is full of dark humor, and its Gothic style, akin to a Tim Burton film such as Edward Scissorhands or Nightmare Before Christmas, serve as great visual emphasis for the dark theme.I loved Jim Carrey's Proformance I didn't find out until after I watched this film that there were books on them so I didn't have that working agianst me (I am planning on reading those books soon). So that is why the five stars. I will be buying this movie.

Tom Brown's Schooldays

Alex Pettyfer stars as the titular Tom Brown in this BBC adaptation of Thomas Hughes' classic novel, a tale about bullies, heroes and courage set in 19th-century England. As Tom moves through his adolescence as a student at the Rugby School for Boys, he must learn to stand up for himself against an imposing set of obstacles, including ridicule from his teachers and his classmates. Stephen Fry plays the reform-minded new headmaster.

Excellent cast and not a dull moment. There's a character in the movie that you will want to strangle with your own bare hands, but alas, that is not possible. Darn! I thought this would just be another remake that only an English teacher would enjoy. I was wrong. Sadly, I'm used to all sort of Disney/Hollywood gliz and action to distract me so at first this was slow going but as I got into it it really surprised me how well done it was.

Of mice and men

Based on John Steinbeck's 1937 classic tale, this drama tells the story of friends George (Gary Sinise, who also directed) and dim-witted gentle giant Lennie (John Malkovich), who wander the country during the Depression. They find work on a California farm and get closer to realizing their dream of settling down, but it all goes tragically wrong when the boss's wife (Sherilyn Fenn) makes advances.

Gary Sinise and John Malkovitch are fabulously paired in this movie. It's impressive that they made Malkovitch look like a gentle giant, even though he is not a very large actor. It manages to capture the flavor and smallest detatils of the bindlestiffs working on the barley harvest, while unfolding coplex, fully formed characters and real uan issues from one of Steinbeck's greatest novels. This is 1 of those rare times when the movie is allmost as good if not equal to the book and I highly recomend watching it and also reading it! The reason the three stars is I am not a fan of cursing so it was hard to hear alot of the words although used in the book. But other than that a great movie to watch once in a while.

Babe

Director Chris Noonan's tale of precocious piglet Babe's (voiced by Christine Cavanaugh) struggle to fit in and become a champion sheepherder won the hearts of audiences and critics. Nominated for seven Academy Awards (including Best Picture), Babe won the Visual Effects Oscar, and everything from farmer Arthur Hoggett (James Cromwell) to the multitude of farm animals to the humble, edgy script is remarkably appealing for kids and adults alike

Rewatching this movie with my husband was great. I first saw this when I was very young, and didn't know puppets were being used. Even Scott and I fell for such realistic animals. This is a very nice story, good for the whole family. I was amazed at the quality of the special effects, the animals seemed to really be talking and doing things not typical of animals without looking too computer generated. Some of the effects are pretty amazing, too. And if you've seen it before, try watching it again and paying attention to the background action. This is a movie I will buy.

Up Close and personal

In this film based loosely on the story of anchorwoman Jessica Savitch, Michelle Pfeiffer plays a woman desperate to become a TV newsperson. After faking her way into a low-level job at a Miami TV station, she falls under the wing of a veteran news director (Robert Redford). With his help, she eventually works her way onto the broadcast. When the big time comes calling, will she leave her mentor (now lover) behind?

I love this movie. The love story is great. There are some love scenes in this show so it is best if you wait until the little kiddies are in bed. I love the way that all these obsticals get in the way and that many of them are cause by themselves. Which lets face it alot of us do in our own lifes. I don't know if I would buy this but good one to check out from time to t ime for those romantic nights either with hubby or boyfriend. Or those nights with your BEN and JERRY's.

Mickey

Best-selling author John Grisham deviates from his usual literary demi-monde (thrillers) with this winning film that stars Harry Connick Jr. as Tripp Spence, a widower who goes on the run with his 12-year-old baseball-phenomenon son, Derrick (Shawn Salinas). They assume new identities and flee to Vegas, where Derrick -- now known as Mickey -- joins a team that makes it to the Little League World Series. But will fame give away his true identity?

Okay so at first it was hard to get into one because I am not a huge baseball fan. Two because I don't like lieing and knowing this a film for families I am like this is a great message for kids if you lie your life will be great. But I think for older kids who can sit all the way through the movie its great because it shows that although for a time you may get away from the lie and it might seem like its great but eventually the past will come back to haunt you. Plus there are so many other lies you have to tell to get the one covered up. Plus the baseball part was one of the first baseball movies I really like including the baseball parts. Even though it is only little league. Good one for dads and kids to sit down together for.

Far and Away

In Ron Howard's epic drama, two 19th century Irish immigrants make the journey to the United States together, but for very different reasons. Joseph Donelly (Tom Cruise) is a poor farmer who's lost everything, while Shannon Christie (Nicole Kidman) is chafing against her privileged but stifling upbringing. Looking for land as they make their way west, they also find love as they endure a series of hardships that strengthens their relationship.

There were a couple scenes where there was sexual thing in them. There was also lots of fighting and some language only 3 that I really heard. Despite these things I believe the acting by the two main charters is great made me feel likt i was really there. It was a great story to explify trials in life and how sometimes you have to take a detor to get to where you want. Also its a great love story with a great ending. Probably wont buy it but a good one to watch once in a while.

Andre

Andre is the remarkable true story of a seal who each spring swam hundreds of miles to visit the human family that rescued him when he was an orphaned pup. Keith Carradine stars as a Maine harbor master who witnesses the playful and appreciative animal's impact on his hometown, his family and especially on his shy nine-year-old daughter (Tina Majorino).

I have always loved this movie. I remember watching this with my brothers and mom. It was so wierd to share the expierence with my husband but we both loved the acting in this movie. I also loved the message. I would love to buy this movie one day.

Are we done yet?

Newlyweds Nick and Suzanne (Ice Cube and Nia Long) move into a big fixer-upper in the suburbs, but their happy new life together is thrown into disarray by an oddball contractor (John C. McGinley). As the renovation project escalates, the handyman bonds with Suzanne and her two children, leaving Nick alienated, angry, and planning crazy schemes to win back his family's respect in this sequel to the popular comedy Are We There Yet?

This movie was good and I actually like it more than the first one. I like the ending really well and the family togetherness of this viedo. I will be buying it because it is good wholesome family entertainment.

Fried green tomatos

In this adaptation of Fanny Flagg's novel, flashbacks reveal the remarkable and mysterious story of soul mates Idgie (Mary Stuart Masterson) and Ruth Jamison (Mary-Louise Parker), whose antics cause an uproar in their rural Southern town during the 1920s. Feisty Ninny Threadgoode (Jessica Tandy) tells the tale to a repressed Alabama housewife (Kathy Bates), who becomes obsessed with Idgie and Ruth, and ultimately finds inspiration in their story.

I love this movie. I always forget that I've seen it so I rent it and realize that I have but still feel like its the first time i saw it. I absoultly love the issuies this movie brings up and the history of our country. Really good teaching toll for older kids so they see what blacks were treated like back than. Also to teach girls how to get out of abusive relationship and move on from tragedy. Don't like the whole implying that the girl killed that man but for older kids that have been taught killing is bad I think this is a good movie for them to see the history of our country.

Prince of Egypt

Born into slavery and cast adrift on the Nile to escape mass genocide, Moses (voiced by Val Kilmer) is reared as the son of Pharaoh Seti (Patrick Stewart) and stepbrother of Ramses (Ralph Fiennes). When Moses learns of his true ancestry, he retreats to the desert, where he answers God's call and accepts his destiny: to lead the Hebrews out of slavery and into freedom. DreamWorks' animated film scored an Oscar for Best Song ("When You Believe").

This was a really good wholesome movie. Got me to think of that story from the bible from new perpective. On how hard it really was for Moses to do what he did. I will be buying this movie and can't believe it has taken me this long to see it. I really like the soundtrack to. Its not right on the money with the story but close enough. Allows you a good optunity to discuss with kids how this story can relate to them and how to gain more meaning from it.

Treasure Island

Robert Louis Stevenson's ageless adventure yarn of buccaneers and buried gold is brought to life in this sumptuous Disney production. Authentic locales and musket-roaring action set the stage as young Jim Hawkins (Bobby Driscoll) searches for "pieces of eight" along with the wily, one-legged pirate of all pirates, Long John Silver (a great Robert Newton). A swashbuckling classic fit for all ages.

This was a pretty good movie. For me had trouble staying intrested but noticed that my 12 year old bro was intrested in it. Really good quality seeming how it is an older movie. I think the boys acting was pretty good. Liked the evil guy in it. Complaint is one of those that you have to really sit through and pay attention to to get. That's all on this one. Good family flick.
